Content:
The VIVACE project promotes languages and language learning to disadvantaged, marginalised and reluctant groups, working in close collaboration with those agencies and organisations which support them. The project will build on the success of ALLEGRO in bringing language learning and cultural experiences to marginalised sectors. VIVACE will take these models and good practice to new countries, and blend the expertise of new members with the experience of a core of members of the original project. It will develop some of the key themes of ALLEGRO, both in respect of target learners and methodologies. It will disseminate this work to key stakeholders in the field of social provision and, in cooperation with them, will develop opportunities for replicability and sustainability. Learner-centred approaches will be used, with learners involved in both the choice of language and the approach used. The use of study circles, ICT, music, drama, dance and cookery have all been effective in the ALLEGRO project and these will be developed further.
Objectives:
  • to promote language learning and to show that it is both relevant and accessible,
  • to take language learning out of educational institutions and into the communities of the learners it aims to reach,
  • to forge links with the organisations which provide for these learners and develop approaches to language learning which would cater for their interests and needs,
  • to broaden the view of the disadvantaged.
Results:
The project is still not finished. Main project activities are:
  • to research provision for language learning for disadvantaged groups in their region,
  • to make links with organisations that would like to offer language learning to their client groups,
  • to organise sub-projects,
  • to contribute to the project deliverables (website, good practice guide, series of small seminars targeted at key stakeholders in the fields of social work and social care).
