Study visit from Sweden
Between 12 and 16 August 2009, twenty-seven adult education professionals took part in a study visit in Slovenia.
Their stay was coordinated by the secretary general of the Association of Slovenian Adult Education Centres, Ms Ema Perme. Swedish guests, representatives of institutions similar to Slovenian adult education centres (folk highschools) and the before mentioned Association, were interested in the Slovenian education system, especially its adult education system and practice. Their field of work covers formal adult education, vocational education and training, quality in education and non-formal programmes in the field of art, environmental issues, ICT, etc. They are engaged in EU and international development projects, the latter mainly in Africa.
The study visit programme consisted of visits to the Slovenian Institute for Adult Education, as well as to the Maribor, Ptuj and Koper adult education centres where they got acquainted with some of their projects in the field of adult education.
At our Institute, a general presentation of SIAE, the umbrella institution for the development of adult education in Slovenia was given. In addition, the Lifelong Learning Week, the INCLUD-ED project, the Institute’s Education and Guidance Unit as well as the Project Learning for Young Adults Project were presented.
In Maribor, the emphasis was on programmes for younger adults, in Ptuj on lifelong learning projects, and in Koper on characteristics of bi-lingual adult education.
Their professional tour of Slovenia included many opportunities for sightseeing and getting familiar with our country's natural and cultural specialities.
